Crude oil slides to three-month low after Iran deal
Crude oil prices moved sharply lower on Tuesday after six world powers reached a nuclear deal with Iran in exchange for removing economic sanctions on the country, allowing it to resume oil exports.
August West Texas Intermediate crude CLQ5, -2.05% dropped $1.03, or 2%, to $51.17 a barrel, setting it on track for the lowest settlement price since mid-April. Brent crude for the same month LCOQ5, -1.94% slid 98 cents, or 1.7%, to $56.87 a barrel.
The losses came after Iran, the U.S. and five other world powers came to agreement on a nuclear accord, after days of tense negotiations. The deal should block Iran’s path to nuclear weapons. In exchange, the economic sanctions that have crippled Iran’s economy will be eased, enabling the country to expand its energy exports and increase oil flows into an already oversupplied market.
