These are beautiful animals. Plenty of them in the Masai Mara. They step on a rock and eagerly watch the surroundings. It's not that easy to catch a prey. We have seen many failed attempts. The impala herd has a couple of them watching while the others graze. They communicate using their tails and they notice any sounds of the predators, sniff the air for smells frequently and also watch for the bird calls. The birds warn them of danger.

Slightest sign of danger they run. Cheetahs are faster but the impalas are pretty fast and very much agile, changing their direction and the cheetah cannot get to them easily. Quite often the cheetah misses the prey, climbs back onto the rock and waits.
The safari drivers go close them and stop the vehicle.
