CSN set to win SLC local TV rights again

The Carlton Sports Network (CSN) sports TV Channel which is in the midst of a massive controversy surrounding the manner in which they won Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) local TV Broadcast rights has, once again, emerged as the highest bidder to claim those rights for another three-year period, sources told “Daily Mirror”.

CSN paid Rs. 125 million to SLC for the previous three year cycle from 2012 to 2015 and it is interesting that the figures offered by Rupavahini and MTV for the new bids this year are far below than the bid offered by CSN even three years ago.

CSN paid this Rs. 125 million for 91 days of international cricket in the past three years, while Rupavahini who owned SLC’s local TV Broadcast rights previously had paid only Rs. 81 million, some Rs. 44 million less, for a total of 101 days of international cricket.

Considering the facts, the figures paid by CSN to secure the TV rights appear to be well justified, which gives rather a contrasting picture to the wild allegations that have been rife.

CSN bid is a massive Rs. 65.5 million more than the second highest bid offered by state television Sri Lanka Rupavahini who had offered Rs. 110 million while the country’s only other sports channel MTV has come in third with a bid of Rs. 51.5 million.
