This is not a racial or a religious issue under the current circumstances. The safe option is cremation. There's no question about it. A virus doesn't discriminate depending on the race or the religion. Under a pandemic situation, the living takes the precedence over the dead. You do what's right by the living. Not the issues of the dead. Religious sensitivities should not apply and no one should be fussing over it. The religious leaders should update their books and teachings rather than dwelling on outdated baseless beliefs.
No one ever arose from the dead, assuming that person was really dead. Whether you like it or not, that's the universal truth.
China disposed the bodies within several hours. They had crematoriums equipped with special air filters. You can't blame them.
The problem we have is the spineless & gutless political leadership which sways to and fro depending on the political wind direction.
I cannot comment on the mechanics of the seepage to the water-table, other than stating that it's a concern and a possibility. Viruses do last for years in dead bodies and does reach beyond the grave. I mentioned this before on another thread. Pls read below a part from that write-up.

This is not the only instance. The complete genome of the Spanish Flu has been constructed from parts of dead bodies. That's how the scientists now know that it also started in China.
