There were only three copies of the film in the National Film Corporation's archive located at Sarasavi Studio but these were afflicted by the 'vinegar syndrome' due to lack of facilities for preservation. Thus the copies were unfit for screening.
The restoration process kicked off almost a year ago when, Birender Singh, a business associates of the Film Team and a fan of Dr Peries' work met up with them.
Later he came back with a proposal from the World Cinema Foundation to locate a copy and restore 'Nidhanaya'. They managed to get a 'dupe' negative from the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) in Pune with the support of its head Mr Padmaraj and National Film Corporation Chairman Asoka Serasinghe.
“It was an uphill struggle but we finally got it done. The WCF spent around 80, 000 euros for the process.
