As discussed, below is some information on what to expect to get you prepared for the SDE Online Assessment. The online assessment will be sent in a separate email.

The coding test itself is 90 minutes timed, with a System Design module untimed and 15 minutes for a multiple choice questions and a brief survey afterward. You cannot stop a section once you’ve begun, so I encourage you to be in a quiet spot ahead of time where you can focus without distraction. The link is valid for 7 days. (Worst case scenario, I can give you more time and resend as well!)

    A few things to note:

    • You can use any of the following languages you’re comfortable with: Java, C, C++, C#, Python, Ruby or JavaScript- We are interested in your demonstration of problem solving, writing correct code, applying patterns/data structures, and optimizing for algorithmic performance on the tests. It’s best to mentally prepare for this.
    • Study data structure and algorithms –you don’t need to memorize definitions, we want to understand how you apply various data structures & algorithms; make good tradeoffs, and can combine data structures to solve complex use cases ( that scale with level).
    • Looking for clean maintainable code, no pseudo code, no IDE will write it out on white board. Know your design patterns. Our code isn’t written once and never modified. New features might be added or bugs pop on.
    • You may be asked to build a hash table/map or binary, or be asked about runtime complexity, LRU cache, what the difference is between data array vs. list etc.
    • You will be asked questions on how you deal with different scenarios for problem solving, and having you come up with the solution.
We will be checking on how you evaluate your code-

    • Speed: If you can finish the problem and come up with a complete solution within the time given. We’re looking for you to solve the problem within the given time.
    • Optimized solution: Try to avoid brute force solution or pseudo code, but come up with an optimized solution in the beginning.
    • Clean code: Be sure everything is factored , formatted, overall your code is neat and organized, we highly value clean code that is test-driven and reusable.
    • These questions will test your ability to solve a technical problem. If you are rusty, you should study up on:
      • Trees (binary/red black trees/N-ary trees, tree symmetric (inverse image), tree traversal, sorting trees, prefix tree, radix tree)
      • hash maps, stacks/queues/heap/priority que
      • link lists/reverse link lists (space vs time)
      • recursion/recursive strings
      • binary search
      • Arrays - 2d/3d
      • graphs/graph traversal
      • Big O notation

    සිරාම කතාව බං. කඩ්ඩ තමා මූලිකම දේ. client ඉස්සරහ එහෙම මාර වචන දාලා කතා කරන්නේ. අපිට අන්න ඒ skill එක නෑ.
