Number of cellular phone users in SL increases by 18.5% in first quarter of 2011
The number of Sri Lankans using mobile phones has seen a sharp increase of 18.5% in the first quarter of 2011. At the beginning of the year 15,044,000 Sri Lankans were using mobile phones whereas at the end of the first quarter this figure had exceeded 17,819,000. The latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka also shows that the number of internet users is increasing rapidly. Over the past few years the number of mobile phone users in Sri Lanka has been increasing at a rate of 30% per annum.
