Ashan Ratwatte, the 24-year-old driver of the Defender vehicle involved in the accident on June 11 in which PC Sithum Alahapperuma was critically injured, was arrested today.
The injured 22-year-old PC succumbed to injuries this morning.
Ashan is a grandson of Anurudda Ratwatte and the captain of a well known rugby team.
Police said the arrested, who is a resident of Ampitiya, had been under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident.
After being produced in the court today, he was remanded till tomorrow. (DSB)
