Our country has more than one law. If you toot horn unnecessarily it is only a Motor Traffic Act offence . It is not obstruction of official duties of police . In fact there were no obstruction as this happened after all the traffic were stopped. This is a joke ! and we see courts are also lecturing rather than applying law. One other thing if you need to prosecute a person under Penal Code for obstruction of official duties Police cant do it they need to get Attroney Generals sanction/ approval. This is clearly violation of person's right to protest. When we were in University MR organized a "Janagotha" and I too participated against UNP. All the vehicles joined us by tooting horn and this was during lunch, at 1pm, and I have just finished one exam paper. No motorist were prosecuted for tooting horn to show their protest to rising cost of living at that time, by then govt UNP. And the whole protest was organized islanwide by MR.
When late Margret Chather addressed parliament our opposition members protested by not attending the session.
It is not an offence to show protest peacefully when a foreign delegate comes to another country and UK, and US this happens without any incident.
Now MR and GR in power and protest to FM of country who is going to acquire land , ports etc in our country is a serious offence -obstruction to Police?
I can only laugh and also regret voting , this applies to 6.9 million too.
