Simple example is oil prices in SL
People think formula is bad but it's the best to manage inflation because it will NOT affect people as much when you do daily adjustments

But SL doesn't allow that because economic isn't important what's important is what people think

    Another example is car prices
SL pay like 3 times of what a normal car cost in say Japan or in the UK

    Another one second hand prices
Sometimes you get more after driving few years which is a sign of structural issues in the economy
I can explain many but no point
What's the point in trying to explain bud. I don't think this govt is clueless and can't do a job properly, but they are wilfully keeping their bloody eyes shut. Comparatively, I think UNP was better at managing the economy than these goons, meaning they were more 'systematic' like, as you say for instance having a pricing formula in place (mila sutraya) for some items as is done in many developed countries. They were trying somewhat, but again they had their share of crooks, the bane of third world countries such as ours. Looks like we're stuck with it too.

    Bank robbery:P

    2015 USD to LKR Rate - Around 130 ---------> 2019 It was at higher than 175 :P
Read the whole sentence, my dear boy. In the rest of the para I have said 'but again they had their share of crooks, the bane of third world countries'. You are a perfect example of why this country finds it tough to develop. Sad indeed. And just for the record, the 'bank robbery' was a continuation of what the previous guys in charge of the central bank started.

I was expressing my comment only for what I quoted from your sentence. That's a real joke.
You don't know who I am and what I am doing for the SL economy, So no point to argue with above quoted.
I would say you are a perfect example of why this country dragging to the hell so far:cry:

Are you a professor or something?
Not necessarily but it's just what has happened to SL
    One party can't be blamed
SL needs hard reforms to come out of this mess

Again currency drop and central bank bond issue is different
Bond was set up so he should be jail including UNP heads
Currency issue is due to soft peg and money printing to finance gov expenditure.
We run on deficit , basically spending more than we earn, due to loans and too many government workers- very obvious

So when we print money it goes to the banking system, it's called sterilisation and end up buying back by the central bank and they make profit which is BAD
    🤣
people think it's good ironic lol

So when wholesale money is printed rupee gets devalued so our import cost and loan repayment in dollars goes up - vicious cycle can't get out

Again as I mentioned before we should only chew what we can afford but politicians alway spend more due to pure ignorance and to satisfy voters

Government workers are the next issue Big fking burden. We have about 1.3 million when we really need about 6-700,000

Pension is another issue, pension should be reformed to contributory fund like the private sector one.

Vehicle permit are another way of classifying old Cast system, this is 2020 everyone must pay taxes but equally and fairly. No one should be above or below

So these are structural hard reforms but sadly we may not see taking place as we are yet to find SLs Lew Kuan Yew

No one wants to do it bro. For example as u mentioned if someone tries to get rid of pension scheme for gvt workers, these bastards won't let it. They'll come to da streets and make a freaking mess.

    I know
I will quote this from Lew Kuan Yew's legacy
Singapore airlines pilots once went to him asking for a pay rise threatening to take an industrial actions( in SL we call it STRIKE)

His response was you either go back to work and make the airlibne profitable or I will close the airline tomorrow
He ruled the country with an iron fist with no bullshit emotions attached for a while to get people used to it and the result was S'pore airlines is once of the most successful and profitable in the world up to date.

Here is the track record in SL

    Power producer ( monopoly)
    CEB: overstaffed and loss making

    Airlines (monopoly)
Sri Lanakan: overstaffed and loss making
Comparison: Air Asia fleet size 255 Employees 20,000
Sri Lankan: Fleet Size 26 Employees 6794
    You do the math

    Transport ( Trains Monopoly)
CGR : overstaffed and loss making
CTB: overstaffed and loss making and Indian garbage ( when I was a kid we had Japanese and German buses)
    SL Vs Vietnam
    imgonline-com-ua-twotoone-aTG5zISs2Raf.jpg

SLPP terminal ( Gov) : overstaffed and lacking innovation( infested by Unions)
Private terminals : John Keels and CICT have less and staff make more money

I can go on and on and on but we know the story!!!!!!!!!!!

Even someone like Lew Kuan can not save the Sri Lanka. It’s not the leadership. We may find good leader one day but it’s the stupidity of majority people. They don’t elect good leaders. It is the sad truth. people are justifying wrong rather criticising them. But still I believe that we can over come this if we find a better ruler.

For sure ruler who doesn't care about getting elected again and do the right by the country
Not for his party or his family and friends
Not for Union or section of the society ( classic example is IUSF and GOMA ) but for the greater good supported by Science and DATA not purely politics

Couldn't agree with you more. But we got to start somewhere, and where should it be? One of my favourite ideas is to make a pass in O/L or A/L mandatory for citizens to get voting rights, or be above (say) 22 years to vote (on the premise that they would be more 'knowledgeable'). It's a chicken or egg situation when it comes to deciding who should be able and intelligent - the voter or the politician - to pull the country out of this quagmire. LKY method might not work here now 'cos our people are accustomed to laziness. If they're forced to work, out will the govt go in the next election.

Still majority is the problem not minority. There is not party called unp now so now you don want to worry about them. So called jvp nobody care but 69laks are worrying. This government elected by majority of 69 laks of people. So that is the fact you have to worry. What is the next agenda of this 69 laks........
