Couldn't agree with you more. But we got to start somewhere, and where should it be? One of my favourite ideas is to make a pass in O/L or A/L mandatory for citizens to get voting rights, or be above (say) 22 years to vote (on the premise that they would be more 'knowledgeable'). It's a chicken or egg situation when it comes to deciding who should be able and intelligent - the voter or the politician - to pull the country out of this quagmire. LKY method might not work here now 'cos our people are accustomed to laziness. If they're forced to work, out will the govt go in the next election.
Certainly we have to start somewhere
Media have no code of ethics and so as the parliament no one does fact checks so people get ruled by Facebook or Whatsapp and of course good old gossip/rumors
I think that will be a hard ass but perhaps MPs requiring basic Diploma or equivalent would be a good start
Also talking of JVP
Its not so much 3% matters its the legacy that matters
I've told my parents million times over about basic economics but they still don't understand why we should adjust fuel price daily and why cant salary cant be increased without productivity and increasing tax income
Its the breakaway parties that matters;
IUSF infested in Universities
SLFP policies are still revolves around Bandaranayake Era
Frontline Socialist Party - now runs IUSF ( correct me if am wrong)
And even constitutional parties such as National Freedom Front ( Wimal's ) carries JVP DNA
Its best to stick to facts here regardless of your political affiliation
