Zen 4 enne 2022. Next year nemei and it'll probably be expensive at the start. So how's B550 a dead end platform? Unless you can travel to the future and buy a Zen 4 build ... right?
He could get at least 4-5 years of use out of a b550, maybe even more. He could go for a 5000 series cpu if he plans to and as an added bonus he'll have PCI-e gen 4 support which might come in handy for him in the future. So no, it's not a dead end.

Of course you can go for a b450, but a good b450 will cost as much as a b550. So why not go for a b550 instead? I didn't say b550 was the only choice, it's the "best" choice imo. He'll have to decide according to his budget and future needs.

And by your logic everyone who bought a 1st gen ryzen have chosen a dead end platform? right?

New hardware will always come, next best thing will be always just around the corner. You can play the waiting game, But you can never win. ✌

Most say it's Q3 2022. No way they're releasing it at the end of 2021. Even AMD's own roadmap also said it's 2022.

Motherboards will last more than 5 years. It's question of whether you want the latest and the greatest. If you don't you can carry on with the last gen for a few more years.
