“In connection with the increasing number of incidents involving Russian citizens, primarily those who have been in the island state for a long time, the embassy calls on Russians permanently residing in Sri Lanka to consider the possibility of returning to their homeland,” says a message posted on the Telegram channel of the diplomatic mission.
The Russian Embassy drew attention to the incident that occurred on the night of February 14-15 at the Rainbow Surf Beach Hotel in the village of Khabaraduwa in the Galle district in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka with three Russian tourists. In relation to citizens of the Russian Federation, according to them, there was harassment and indecent behavior on the part of the hotel staff. This was followed by a fight involving a Russian who was in Sri Lanka on a permanent resident visa.
“We would like to note that this is not the first such complaint against this hotel. The consular department of the embassy, in accordance with the law, is taking all possible measures to respond to this incident,” the diplomatic mission added.
