Some (including professionals) like to immigrate to Australia, Canada and other countries for better living. There are good as well as bad of immigration. Below discuss some of the issues many people do not want to discuss.
(1) climate - sri lanka has extraordinary climate. In most parts, temperature can be from 20 to 32C and also has a good rain. This is extremely rare thing in other countries. In Australia temp can be well above 40. Canada temp can be -45 (in many cities... almost 6 months of snow and cold weather!). In England/Europe, many parts are gloomy and miserable for months.
People get very frustrated and disappointed. When I talk to some people about SL weather, they cant believe it. It is too good to be true. And there are no regular natural disasters in SL (may be minor except Tsunami).
(2) Salary - you are first impressed with salary (thousands of dollars!). But be careful. Say if you are paid 8 lacks (SLR) per month as a professional. There is a tax (say 40%). You will get around 4.8 lacks. Lot of bills (home insurance, life insurance, healthcare, child expenses!)
(3) Cost of house- Cars are cheap. But house price is very high (in some cities, the average price of three bedroom house can be more than 600 lack (in SLR). You have to pay significant amount of your salary for 20-35 years to pay it (say 2 lacks per year , mortgage +t ax on home). The rest of the salary will go to everyday expenses + day care fee/activities for children and basically it is very difficult to save any money. Once you save money and have a trip to SL (that is it)
(4) Parents - Due to strict rules, it is difficult/impossible to bring parents . For a short visit, healthcare is a problem . I have several cases, where insurance companies do not pay some of the expenses (more than 20 Lacks in one case, SLR)
(5) culture - your children may be as suddo (you know what I mean)
And many more
