Personally I believe there is some good points in these programs as well. but the way the sri lankan media
In SL we saw 5 programs of these kind in the recent past
Sirasa Super Star
Derana Dream Star
Sri Lankan Life
Singing Star
ITN Ran tharu
Out of these , I believe the first two produced very talented set of new comers to SL music industry ( despite of the way they choos them by means of SMS)
But unfortunately the Media Mafia within the country killed most of these youngsters.
I know most of their own songs of these new comers are in good quality (I mean the music, the lyrics, & the way they sing)
But the TVs & Radios are not willing to play these songs of people who came from programs of their rival channels. But with out hesitation they telecast/ broadcast nasty songs which does not have a meaning, only show sex & violence, lyrically absurd! ( Sp this is true for Sirasa TV&Radio & TV Derana, Y FM, Hiru & Rhythm FM, Shri) mewaye yana sindu walin 50% withara kanata ahanna thiya langata ganna wath behe!
Why is this, its simply these channels try to become number one to gain commercial success ( So they wanna show the people comes from other channels programs are not either talented nor able to popular)
but ultimately some talented guys/gals bewilderedly stuck in the industry! Sirasa has a nasty habit of not even playing a single song of singers who came from other reality shows! because they wanna be one & only!
If they really wanna do good for SL music then they should open doors to the talented people coming from other channels' programs as wel!
Most of SL TVs & Radios cvery infrequently play these peoples songs but readily play songs ( in their language "tracks") of people without talent but who have money to make some "kunuharapa" in to rap an called it as a song

Me ayage sindu e aya aapu channels wala erenna anik channels wala yanne nethi tharam but I know most of the songs of these guys are really aesthetic, nice

Nethnam lankaawe sindu wala anagathe harima kaluwara wewi handle now a days music & musicians had made these programs a danger to our talented youths
