If you have that much money, please invest in our energy sector. We need foreign investments.

It's an attractive proposal. Similar to the Norochcholai project. And it was fucking Jeppos who opposed that project too. but still, the majority of the electricity generation has been taken over by that single plant. As I said, our country is small and not that attractive to businesses, especially when you spend billions and expect a return of 1.7 billion in the span of 20 years.

    It's an attractive proposal.
adani's project isn't an attractive proposal. to find a proposal is attractive or not they should go with a tender or should take offers from other nations at least in confidential manner. if adani didn't like the both of those options, SL gov should've rejected it politely.
Similar to the Norochcholai project. And it was fucking Jeppos who opposed that project too.
Nope it wasn't jeppos. It was a court order. Jeppos went to the court that's true. but it was stopped by the court decision.
If the gov properly did what they had to do for the norochchole, court wouldn't stop it. It was a failure of the government to execute the project in the correct process.
It's easier to say "jeppo, jeppo, jeppo" as excuse to everything so that UNP, Pohottuwa and their brain dead supporters can hide behind them to cover their stupid decision making and epic failures.
As I said, our country is small and not that attractive to businesses,
if that's the case we can only expect crony capitalists to the country. their would be no fair business opportunities in SL. just agree to whatever some country, crony capitalist say and let the innocent tax payers pay the price?
So why we need a government assistant, laws & regulations for the businesses? Why anyone would talk about going higher in "ease of doing business" rankings?

btw: even to find whether we've a small market which is not that attractive to businesses, you should go with a tender or let the open market decide. then only we can find out.
especially when you spend billions and expect a return of 1.7 billion in the span of 20 years.
Adani not investing in here just to sell to SL, he has a bigger plan, he's targeting SL power consumption & sell the rest to the India as well. so they definitely making money of it (which is ok) & not doing it for the charity.

whether taking 20 years or 30 years to make his money back is his problem. what we should think about is get the best rates for the deal for our natural resource.

Our energy sector is open to investment (that bill was already passed in parliament with a majority of votes). And if you have a feasible solution with that much money, you are welcome; the plan is to attract at least 2.9 billion dollars. so please invest.

And wait forever to get the approval through red tape and bureaucracy in institutions like BOI, environmental ministry, etc without bribing?

Still, you guys didn't get the context; it's not about a single fact; it's about a combined event. Think about the big picture. In politics, you cannot act on just sudden impulses. When you consider unit cost alone, this project is not that attractive, but thinking about the power crisis, the deprived investments, and the relations with India, it is a better deal.

You didn't answer my question. With one of the most expensive electricity and fuel prices, pathetically lethargic and corrupted government and it's bureaucracy, time wasting traffic congestion, politically backed trade union mafia and underworld who gets the bids to supply manpower workers, canteen and transportation who the hell is gonna come to invest in a corrupted country like this country? Only goons like Adani
