I thought professors Salary may be about hundred thousands Rupees.
?? Are you suggesting that the salaries are too high ??
You are entitled to your opinion machan. But please note that
1. Professors and other academics hold the highest level of qualifications. (3/4 year bachelor's degree + 5-7 years of a PhD + more years spent doing research). It's a known fact that most people working in the Govt. sector are not qualified for the job. These people are. I don't see anything wrong in rewarding them proportionately.
2. These academics have spent years and years in foreign countries. They could have easily settled down there. They came back to serve our country - I don't think it is fair to dish out step-motherly treatment to them.
3. With private universities popping up everywhere, these academics will be in high demand and will be able to easily draw a larger salary. If the difference between remuneration is too high, none of the good lecturers will stay at Govt. universities. Which you have to agree will lead to the eventual downfall of the whole Govt education system.
4. The present strike is not to demand even more salary, but to demand that the Govt keeps its promises that it made during the earlier strike regarding salary.
5. Salary is only one part of the lecturers' demands. Please don't try to make this into a purely salary issue. Tell me, if you don't agree with increasing of salaries, why the Govt. can't agree to the other requests?
