Sri Lanka's Sanken eyes mega projects with foreign partners after 2019 budget

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's Sanken Construction (Pvt) Ltd said it is now eyeing an 18 billion rupee government office complex contract, after the 2019 budget forced foreign competitors to form joint ventures with local firms.

"After the latest budget, two to three Chinese companies have already contacted us saying they would like to do joint ventures," Sanken Group Managing Director Ranjith Gunatilleke said.

"This is for the new 18 billion rupee project in Battaramulla for government offices," he said.

Under the 2019 budget, foreign contractors for government projects have to form joint ventures with local firms, especially if funding came from domestic sources.

"That's very good for local industry," Gunatilleke said. "These inquiries are coming most probably because of that."

Sri Lanka's Ceylon Steel group to set up US75mn cement grinding plant

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's Ceylon Steel and Onyx group is investing 75 million US dollars to set up a cement grinding plant in Mirijjawila, Hambantota, officials said.

The plant when completed in 18 months would have an annual capacity of 3.6 million metric tonnes, Mangala Yapa, technical advisor to the ministry of international trade and investment said.

Sri Lanka has an annual cement demand of about 8.5 million metric tonnes of which about 2.8 million tonnes are produced domestically.

The plant will have a convered conveyor from the port to carry clinker minimizing environmental fallout from unloading, Yapa said.

Director General of Sri Lanka's Board of Investment Champika Malalgoda told reporters no import protection had been promised to the investor.

Registrar General Dept., Land Registrar launch one day service

The service of registering land documents and birth certificates in one day without payment was launched on Saturday under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

One day service of registering movable and immovable property and issuing of a national Birth Certificate prepared according to international standards were commenced.

The program was launched simultaneously at 36 regional offices of the Registrar General’s office and the new service will be in operation from today onwards at island-wide Land Registrar offices and Divisional Secretariats.

The objective of this is to bring the Registrar General’s Department to the top of the list of priorities and to provide an efficient service to the people.

The new system will prevent making false birth certificates. The birth, marriage and death certificates will be issued with new security features in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages. The question whether the parents are married or not has also been removed from the new birth certificate.

අමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 3850ක වියදමින් ඉදි කරන මෙම නව තෙල් පිරිපහදුව අක්කර 200ක භූමි භාගයක ඉදිකෙරෙන බවද, එහි ඉදිකිරීම් මාස 44ක් ඇතුළත නිම කිරීමට නියමිත බවද නියෝජ්‍ය ඇමැතිවරයා කියයි.

මේ මඟින් ඍජු රැකියා අවස්ථා 1500කට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් ද, ඉදිකිරීම් කාල පරිච්ඡේදයේ රැකියා 750ක් ප්‍රමාණයක් ද, වක්‍ර රැකියා සහ වක්‍ර ආදායම් මාර්ග විශාල ප්‍රමාණයක් ද නිර්මාණය වන බවත් නියෝජ්‍ය ඇමැතිවරයා පෙන්වා දෙයි.

මෙම තෙල් පිරිපහදුවේ නිෂ්පාදන ක්‍රියාවලිය ආරම්භ වීමෙන් පසු මෙරට අපනයන ආදායම ඩොලර් බිලියන 7කින් වැඩි වන බවත්, මෙරට අපනයන ශක්තිමත් වී රටට මුදල් ගලා ඒම වැඩි වී රටේ රුපියල ද ශක්තිමත් වන බවත් නියෝජ්‍ය ඇමැති නලින් බණ්ඩාර මහතා පෙන්වා දෙයි. පසුගිය වසරේ මෙරට මුළු අපනයන ආදායම ඩොලර් බිලියන 17ක්ව තිබූ බවද සඳහන් කරයි.

මීට අමතරව, ලංකා වානේ සංස්ථාව සහ ඔනික්ස් ගෘෘප් ඔෆ් කම්පනීස් (UAE) ආයතන එක්ව ඩොලර් මිලියන 100.08ක වියදමින් අක්කර 64ක භූමි ප්‍රමාණයක සිමෙන්ති නිෂ්පාදන කම්හලක් ආරම්භ කිරීමට ද කටයුතු යොදා ඇති බවත් නියෝජ්‍ය ඇමැතිවරයා සඳහන් කරයි. මෙහි පළමු අදියරේ ඉදිකිරීම් නිම කිරීම සඳහා වසර 2ක් සහ දෙවැනි පියවර සඳහා වසර 3ක් වශයෙන් මුළු ඉදිකිරීම සඳහා වසර 5ක් ගත වන බවද පවසයි. එයට සමගාමීව පෙරසවි කොන්ක්‍රීට් නිෂ්පාදන කම්හලක් ආරම්භ කිරීමට ද කටයුතු යොදා ඇති බව ද නියෝජ්‍ය අැමැතිවරයා සඳහන් කරයි. මෙම කර්මාන්ත මඟින් ඍජු රැකියා 1000ක් සහ වක්‍ර රැකියා 1500ක් පමණ නිර්මාණය වන බවද කියයි.

සංවර්ධන උපාය මාර්ග හා අන්තර්ජාතික වෙළෙඳ අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ඊයේ (19) පැවති මාධ්‍ය හමුවකදී නියෝජ්‍ය අැමැතිවරයා මේ බව පැවසීය.

එළවළු - පළතුරු ආරක්ෂාවට දඹුල්ලට ශීතාගාරයක්

The locomotives were manufactured by the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), which is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, Sri Lanka Railways ordered 10 such rail locomotives of 3000 HP broad gauge from DLW. Out of these 10, two locomotives have been sent to Sri Lanka during the end of February 2019.
