Lawyers and UNP MPs and their supporters have launched a protest outside the court premises in Hultsdorp today afternoon.
Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka’s vehicle was blockedfor about 20 minutes by the protestors.Later the police intervened and they were able to take Mr. Fonseka’s vehicle into the court premises. The protestors chanted slogans calling for the release of Mr. Fonseka.
A DIG was rushed to the scene to maintain law and order.Mr. Fonseka was being brought to courts to take part at the trial at bar which is in progress at the Colombo High Court over his controversial remarks that the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had ordered not to spare any of the LTTE cadres surrendering.

The UNP said yesterday that contrary to accusations, it had not abandoned retired Gen. Sarath Fonseka and was writing to President Mahinda Rajapaksa to release Fonseka immediately.
UNP Media spokesman Gayantha Karunathillake told a news conference in Colombo that Wickremesinghe in his capacity, as Opposition leader, was to dispatch a letter to Rajapaksa yesterday or latest by today.
The entire country should be ashamed that a war hero, described as the best army commander in the world, was being treated worse than a common criminal, he said.
"Mr. Wickremesinghe, addressing a party meeting in Galle on Sunday, called on President Rajapaksa to release General Fonseka immediately. This would be followed by a written request today or tomorrow."
Karunathillake, said that it was a disgrace to see former LTTE leaders such as Karuna, Pilliyan and KP leading comfortable lives with public funds, while Fonseka, who was responsible for defeating the LTTE, was being locked up under inhuman conditions.
The UNP, he said, would also be holding countrywide religious ceremonies at
temples, kovils, mosques and churches seeking divine intervention for the release of Fonseka.
"Twenty religious ceremonies have been planned for October alone. On October 8, we would be distributing leaflets at the Fort Railway Station to educate the public about the facts pertaining to the cases filed against General Fonseka and the unfair nature of the convictions," he said

A leading monk has told a specialist doctor who had spoken to him that there have never been barbaric leaders like the Rajapaksas in the country's history.
The statement had been made when the specialist doctor had called the monk and requested him to try and get a bed for Sarath Fonseka in jail considering his medical condition, if there was no way to secure his release from jail.
The specialist doctor had said, “I know the state of the General's kidneys. It is very bad for him to sleep on the cement floor in prison. His kidneys are still not functioning well due to the injuries sustained in the explosion. I am making this request as a doctor. Regardless of securing his release, at least make a request to provide this war hero who liberated the country with a bed to sleep on considering his medical condition.”
The monk has responded by saying, “The leaders in the country today do not listen to what any monk says. We made so many statement about
the General, these people do not respect the words of the Buddhist clergy. I will tell, but I do not know if they will do it. There have never been barbaric leaders in the country's history.”
