COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) has arrested Kaduwela Municipal Councillor Aruna Lakmal Nishantha in connection to the shooting of SAITM CEO Dr. Sameera Senaratne.
The Police noted that the suspect was produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s court yesterday (April 18th) and was taken in for further questioning under detention orders.
A gunman on a motorbike opened fire at the vehicle of Dr. Sameera Senaratne on the 6th of February 2017 as he was returning home after work. The CEO of SAITM was not injured in the attack, however his vehicle sustained damages.

ඉකුත් 2017 වසරේ පෙබරවාරි මස දිනක සයිටම් ආයතනය ආසන්නයේදි වෛද්ය සමිර සේනාරත්න මහතා ගමන්ගත් මෝටර් රථයට වෙඩි ප්රහාරයක් එල්ල වු අතර එය හිතා මතාම සැලසුම් සහගව සිදුකරන ලද සිදධියක් බවට හෙළි වි ඇති අතර, ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් වෛද්ය සේනාරත්න මහතාගෙන් අපරාධ පරික්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට මිට පෙර දිනක ප්රශ්න කර තිබුණි. එම ප්රශ්න කිරිමට අදාලව මෙම අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනිම සිදුකර ඇති බවයි පොලීසිය කියා සිටියේ.
අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් සේනාරත්න මහතා අද කඩුවෙල මහේස්ත්රාත් අධිකරණයට ඉදිරිපත් කිරිමට නියමිතයි
Remanded till 14th
The former CEO of SAITM, Dr. Sameera Senaratne was arrested on Saturday by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the shooting which took place in Malabe in February 2017.
The former CEO was arrested for allegedly staging the shooting along with a Pradeshiya Sabha member. He was remanded till June 14 by the Kaduwela magistrate's court. Dr. Senaratne was unhurt when he was shot at while travelling in his car by two armed men on a motorbike wearing full-face helmets on Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha near the SAITM campus in Malabe in February 2017.
However, further investigations revealed that the shooting was staged to portray a fake death threat on the life of Dr. Senaratne.
