To be honest I am not a fan of neither Chandimal nor Thirimanne.But i agree on the fact that they are the future of Sri Lanka Cricket for some extent.When we look at these statistics from a third eye, it's crystal clear that Thirimanne is a better batsman than Chandimal in ODIs overall.
Chandimal had played 9 ODI innings more than Thirimanne but still his ODI average,ODI runs, ODI Centuries and ODI Half Centuries are lesser than Thirimanne.
Chandimal's ODI form had been really disappointing. After scoring 2 ODI centuries in his first 8 ODIs there had been nothing significant from him. He couldn't score a single ODI Century in almost 100 ODIs. His last ODI Century was the one he scored at Lord's (4 years and 10 months ago).
If we compare Dinesh Chandimal's statistics with Virat Kohli, Steven Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Ahamed Shehzad and Darren Bravo who played in the 2008 U19 WC together, Dinesh Chandimal is far behind.
He is no more a youngster. In 2013, the SLC Board kept faith on him an awarded him a Grade 1 contract along with experienced cricketers like Sangakkara and Jayawardene, That was done to encourage and motivate Chandimal to do well for his team, but rarely he did. Since 2014 He is getting paid 5.5 lakhs(tax inclusive) per an ODI and 260 lakhs(tax exclusive) per month(and many more allowances and benefits) since he is contracted as a Grade 1 Cricketer along with Angelo Mathews,Lasith Malinga, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Rangana Herath and Nuwan Kulasekera who are by far much better match winners for Sri Lanka than Chandimal.
These salaries are paid for them to perform in matches not to make big talks like "we are going to give them a surprise" or anything else. What public want is not big talks but performance. Why players can't perform well for his country even when they are getting paid high salaries as this, what's the point of keeping players like them in the team. It's truly a burden to the SLC Board. This money could have been spent by the Board for first class cricketers who have financial problems.
I am not trying to defend Lahiru Thirimanne here. But he was much more consistent and also better than Chandimal in ODIs. And also he was never given a Grade 01 contract by SLC Board ....

චන්දිමාල් ODI ලගකදී දිනෙව්වේ පකිස්තාන් මැච් එක විතරයි ලංකාවේ තිබ්බේ...එකේ උ මොලේ පවිච්ච්චි කරලා අන්තිම වෙනකන් හිටියා..එත් දිනෙව්වේ නම් අලුතින් ආපු දෙන්නෙක් ගහලා

ඒ නිසා අඩුම තරමේ මැච් 10-15කත 100ක් වත් ගහන් පුළුවන් උනොත් හොදයි කියලා මට හිතෙන්නේ ලොකු කැපිල්ලක් ගියා අශාන් ප්රියන්ජන්ට.. එර යකාව එවන්නේ ඕවර 5-8 තියෙද්දී..ගහපන් කියලා..එත් ඒ මිනිහා එහෙම ගහන එකෙක් නෙවි..ලස්සනට ඉනිමක් ගහන්න පුළුවන් කෙනෙක්,ටිකක් වෙලා විකට් එකේ ඉන්න ඕන කෙනෙක්..
තමන්ගේ මුල් මැච් එකේම ප්රේසර් පිට 70ක් ගහපු එකාට තැන දුන්නේ නැහැ චන්දිමාල්/තිරිමාන්න නිසා
අනික ඕනෑම ක්රීඩකයෙක් ආපු ගමන් ගහනවා..එකයි මුල් කාලේ ඔය දෙන්නම ගැහුවේ..ටිකක් දවසක් යද්දී තමා මේ අයගේ වැරදි පෙන්නේ..ඊට පස්සේ බෝලස් දන්නවා ලස්සනට ගේම ගහන්න
මුන් පදියෝ වගේ තමන්ගේ වැරදි හදා ගන්නේ නැතුව ටෝක් දිදී ඉන්නවා
