WHO hasn't named this variant and it's still B.A.2.75. Some guy in Twitter named it Centaurus and that name got stuck. The WHO was earlier suggesting that new variants should be named after constellations and hence there's no problem with this name either.
There are two concerning mutations G446S and R493Q. The former has an increased potential of antibody evasion and the latter increases the infectivity. It has more than 8 mutations in the Spike protein.
It's suspected that this originated in India around May and now it's spreading across India and now travelling around all over the Globe. With border controls virtually non-existent now, the spread is quite easy,
Even after three years there seem to be no end of this virus. No new vaccines are released and the same old vaccine is used as boosters which is not the ideal.
As @Solo Rider mentioned get vaccinated. Even though it will not protect you 100% against infection, it will prime your system ready to give a fight. Some sort of being battle-ready counts.
Masks, sanitizers are protective measures. I just returned after more than a month in several countries (France, UK, Croatia, Slovenia, Iceland and then back to the UK & France) Didn't use public transport (other than aircraft), all self-drive cars in all these countries except for the last two days in Paris (no need of a car at all)
Always used masks, mostly dining outside the restaurants (no sitting inside, sit at a table outside). It's hard to escape from an unseen virus but you always can take some extra steps to take care & caution.
