India reported a total of 1,010 COVID-19 cases as of May 27, marking a steady rise in infections. Kerala recorded the highest spike with 335 new cases, followed by Maharashtra with 153, Delhi with 99, and Gujarat with 76, raising its total to 83. Punjab reported its first case and has begun contact tracing efforts, according to Times of India.

The new variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 are being closely monitored by the World Health Organization, though no serious threat has been identified so far. Health experts advise the public to maintain hygiene and remain cautious but not alarmed, as symptoms remain mild.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured that hospitals are fully equipped to manage any further rise in cases, Times of India reported.

    Oh 😯 don’t we have our පාරම්පරික සිංහල වෙදකම to beat COVID?
So why worry? No need to admit into hospitals since docs are just cold blooded murderers anyway right?
Just drink some ධම්මික පැණිය and you’ll all be perfectly fine!

    අපිට හිතා ගන්න පුළුවන් ආවොත් වෙන්නේ මොකද්ද කියලා.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution (TAG-VE) on May 23 announced that it has designated NB.1.8.1 as a SARS-CoV-2 variant under monitoring (VUM), noting that, although proportions are growing rapidly, the virus seems only marginally more immune-evasive than the more dominant LP.8.1 sublineage.

NB.1.8.1 clusters with other JN.1 sublineages and descends from XDV.1.5.1. The earliest sample was collected on January 22. So far sequences have been submitted from 22 countries, and, based on limited sequencing data.
TAG-VE said the risk is currently low and that the confidence in the assessment is low, given that only a single study has assessed antigenicity using pseudoviruses with serologic data from two cohorts. It added that more studies are needed to further assess the risk of antibody escape.

So far, the evidence doesn't suggest resistance to the antiviral drug Nirmatrelvir, which is one of the two components of Paxlovid treatment.

Note: The other active part of Paxlovid is Ritonavir. Nirmatrelvir must be taken together with Ritonavir. Failure to correctly take nirmatrelvir with ritonavir will result in plasma levels of nirmatrelvir that will be insufficient to achieve the desired therapeutic effect.
