An American special forces soldier was arrested in a case involving bets on the operation to capture Nicolas Maduro, reports CNN.According to the prosecution, Special Forces Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke participated in the planning of the operation and had access to secret information. At the end of December, he opened an account on the Polymarket platform and placed a bet of about ÂŖ32,000 on Maduro being "removed" by January - a bet that was considered unlikely.
In total, he made 13 bets between December 27 and January 2, the last one a few hours before the night-time operation. After the operation, he made a profit of more than ÂŖ400,000.
The investigation alleges that he transferred the money to a foreign crypto storage and then to a brokerage account to hide its origin. He has been charged with fraud, theft, and the unlawful use of secret information.
