This photograph was published several times in National Geographic and once it was two page full one. This was the time we did not have colour photography in sri lanka. (we could not process till 80s). There were constant photos of Sri Lanka in Nationa Geography specially historic ones at that time.
I still have digital (CD) of past Nat Geo Mags but cannot open as they required Win 95 ! and cd drive too!
This delivery of lunch was popular in Suburbs and I remember my father's lunch was also delivered to his office this manner. The bicycle comes to collect it from house and again the empty plates were also delivered in the evening! . We tied the covered plate with big handloom cloth with a small cardboard name tag and that was all. The lunch was delivered on time and empty plates were also collected in from office after lunch. Sometimes mishaps happened in return an wrong plates were delivered too!!
The system did not cope with new eateries that flock in 80s and people started eating rubbish over 'home made lunch'.
