Two persons were arrested in connection with the alleged attempted rape of a Columbian tourist at the bottom of the Mihintale Rock earlier today, police said.
They said the two suspects, described as local tour guides had attempted to the rape the woman inside a toilet situated in the area shortly before dusk yesterday.
The woman was saved by her husband who was descending from the rock when he heard his wife screaming.
On seeing the husband rushing to the area the two suspects had fled the area only to be arrested earlier today, police said.
The Mihintale Police are conducting further investigations.
