LTTE terrorists dug deep in Kilinochchi as Armed forces windup for an all-out assault at the remaining LTTE resistance points in the besieged District. Terrorists are fleeing into more remote areas further towards Mullaittivu, moving alongwith thousand civilians under its captivity.
Unnoticed, the LTTE is genociding the Tamil population with the increase of underaged into its ranks, defence observers state. The outfit who claimed itself to be the 'sole representatives' of Tamils is now playing its true role, unmasked, in the verge of extinction. Every civilian including elderly who are held as human shields by LTTE, are forced to undertake a 2 hour compulsory arms training in pocket camps at Mullaittivu, the sources said citing reliable information.
According to defence observers, Mullaittivu is said to be the last battlegrounds of the three decade long strife which has left thousands killed and as many displaced. Though some of the Colombo based 'defence experts' and LTTE henchmen dwell with the belief of a major LTTE offensive wave, such is unlikely as the military tactics continue to evolve in a rapid phase.
The Army and Air force are unleashing combined raids at LTTE, minimizing all possible efforts to reinforce or regroup. This strategy has left the tiger leadership confined into underground layers, defence observers said. The Navy is also continuing to starve the LTTE from arms and seaborne logistic supply worsening LTTE's hope of a prolong resistance. Further, the deployment of the Rapid Attack Boat Squadron (RABS) by the navy has also kept the LTTE craft at bay.
Meanwhile, security forces yesterday (Oct 6) launched a series of attacks on the terrorists, claiming 29 LTTE deaths and 23 casualties at the Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu battlefronts. Troops are now intensifying the military thrust into the tiger heartland as Army infantrymen inch forward amidst LTTE resistance fire, security sources said. 2 soldiers have laid their lives and 7 reported wounded in the confrontations.
At Chamalankulama in the combined Vavuniya-Mullaittivu front troops forced into an LTTE strongpoint seizing control over 4 LTTE bunkers at around 4.15p.m. At least 2 terrorists were killed in the fighting, ground sources were reported saying. Similarly, troops have forced and captured 8 LTTE bunkers including a mortar launching pad in general area Puvarasakulama. Following items were also recovered by troops during subsequent search operations.
