Australia 31 - 0

Can we make it to 31 - 1 ?

The points table says Australia have won two from two, and they've played 31 World Cup matches since their last defeat. In the light of Ireland's triumph over England, Australia's wins over Zimbabwe and an out-of-form New Zealand shouldn't be ignored, but nor did they reveal anything new about Ponting's outfit. The Tait-Lee-Johnson triumvirate are a handful for weaker batting orders, Shane Watson makes solid half-centuries, and quality spin can slow the Australians down. No surprises there.

Sri Lanka considering three spinners for Aussie clash

We are considering using three spinners in our match against Australia, said Kumar Sangakkara the captain of the Sri Lanka cricket team. Sri Lanka is scheduled to face the defending champions tomorrow at R. Premadasa stadium.

We have a balanced side with both spin and pace bowlers but the Australian’s strength is their pace attack, the Lankan skipper said during a press briefing held at the Premadasa Stadium complex today (March 04).

When queried by media personnel regarding the importance of winning the toss Sangakkara said that “winning the toss will be an important factor but not a decisive factor in winning the match”.

He further added that the focus is to win the match and not the toss. Sri Lanka’s Group A match against Australia will be crucial for the team’s progress to the knockout stages.
