Machan 32 & 64 bit is the width of the DATA-BUS of CPU.
Just think of a High level road that you can go some times only 2 vehicle at a time & think about a road that goes 4 vehicles at a time simultaneously. Same way the data bus will work inside the motherboard ....
    new CPU's e.g. CORE2DUO to latest are support for 32 & 64 bit operations.
    >FIRST you can check whether your processor is support 64 bit operation by Intel website's reference information page for your CPU
    >SECOND check whether your motherboard is support 64 bit operation
by motherboard website's reference information page
    >THIRD check whether 64 bit operation is enabled by BIOS
    >FORTH install 64 bit Operating system like Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit \ Or Redhat Enterprise Linux 64 bit

***If you have done this you will be able to enjoy 64 bit operation which will increase you PC's speed dramatically !!!!:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked:

32bit and 64bit has something to do with the big integers and all but simply if you have over 3.25GB 32bit OS won't recognize that you have more than that... but still if you have programs which written for 64bit OS then you can put 64bit OS cuz those programs will run effectively on 64bit OS... :) :)

@Sachchanaka you won't feel a dramatic speed in 64bit :P :P... cuz i have both Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and 64bit(I have 6GB ram in my lap using 32bit for some music related softwares)... and i don't feel a dramatic speed change in those two :) :)...

    Right Click on My Computer > Properties

32bit> Kaspersky,Word
    64bit> WinRAR 64bit version

    පුළුවං හැම වෙලාවකම software එකක 64bit තියෙනවනං ඒක පාවිච්චි කරන්න නැත්නං 32bit යන්න එතකොට හරිනෙ :)

The reason you don't see a dramatic speed u is that the application you use are not 64bit optimized. If you use the 21bit and 64bit same application your pc you will see that the 64bit programs runs faster.

in essence 32bit apps on 64bit pcs runs a tad slower or the same speed as 32bit o/s's but uses a bit more memory. on the other hand 64bit on 64bit is faster and memory utilization is optimized.

No machan, all 32bit apps will work on 64 bit O/S's but 16bit apps will not work. so if your application has 16bit parts then your app will not work. I've been only using 64bit o/s's since windows 7 was released and all the applications i got worked and there were no driver issues. if i got into any problems this was bcos the app was very old or the device was very old.
