Migrant Sri Lankan workers who have been in foreign employment for at least a year can now enjoy duty-free shopping for nine goods being brought into the country. This comes in the wake of Sri Lanka Custom deciding to offer greater benefits to Sri Lankans working overseas.
Accordingly, migrant workers will be allowed to import a bathroom set, bedroom suit and motorcycle with a capacity below 350cc, alongside solar panels, computers, laptops and two mobile phones each. Sri Lanka Customs announced that workers returning from abroad could also purchase televisions sets of less than 55 inches duty-free
