4700 Mbps world record

German internet service provider Kabel Deutschland (KD) says they have set a new world record by achieving 4700 Mbps (4.7 Gbps) on its network during a field test.

KD uses cable DOCSIS 3.0 technology on its network.

KD currently offers 8, 16, 32, 100 Mbps connections to customers.

"Using this speed, a DVD could theoretically be downloaded within eight seconds. Current standard laptops or modems cannot even process these high speeds. It will take many more years until users find online services and web content that need a download speed of up to 4.7 Gbit/s."
