64 bit Applications are specifically designed to use 64bit CPU capabilities such as 64bit registers,so u can't use 64bit applications on a 32bit CPU, but u can run 32bit Applications on a 64bit CPU,that is backward compatibility.
got it??

you need to buy a 64 bit supported processor, all the core2duo and quad cores supports 64 bit. No big idea abt AMD but latest processors like AMD phenom supports 64 bit.

hehe no idea about AMD eh, for the knowledge AMD K8 (AMD Athlon 64 3000+) was the first x86 64bit processor. it was relased in 2003, the architechture is called AMD64 and intel is using the same technology on its Processors (simply renamed as EM64T). so yes all the current AMD K8 based processors support 64bit tech and some older Netbursts and all Core Architechture based processors support 64bit, but remember AMD made the first 64bit x86 CPU.
