Good CRT monitors still have a much better color gamut than even professional LCD monitors. Normal LCD monitors have a very low color gamut and viewing angles, these monitors cannot be compared against even the cheapest CRT monitors out there. However newer high end LCDs having IPS / VA type panels have better colors, but they are way too expensive, a 21” will cost you like Rs 100,000. Only drawbacks of CRT monitors are : they don’t have very high resolutions, no wide screen aspect ratios, very hard to find anything larger than 21".
Maybe that guy was talking about digital (DVI/HDMI) vs analog (VGA) signal quality. Since LCDs are digital devices you can use a digital interface (DVI/HDMI) to transmit video data, and there is no loss of the signal quality, but if you use an analog (VGA) signal, then the digital > analog conversion can cause some loss in the signal quality. Furthermore, analog signals are more susceptible to noise and other electro magnetic interferences than digital signals, therefore you might see some visual abnormilities (ghosting, color shifts etc) but these are barely noticeable.
