Ok here goes.

These are just "some" personal accounts and memories / knowladge of one man which I had the honour of sharing a glass with during the previous week. This is a LONG writeup. But read it for your knowledge because you will never hear or get this through any media.

(it's amazing what places alchohol take you and the people you meet through it):D

The Man, Victor Unanaththanna

Younger brother of P.A Unanaththanna - (late) PA PM of Hanguranketha
The Former GA of Mannar during 1949
The architect of Mrs.Banda's elecation mandate in 1960's (and regrets it :) )
The secretary to the leader of opposition during 1984 - 1993
Now retired and living next door to me

Victor uncle and I talk of many things in Lazy saturday afternoons over a glass of booz ! and these are personal comments of the President Premadasa which he know via personal relationship with the MAN him self.

Premadasa's history. - Parents who are they and where did they come from.

During the Portuguese regime, Sinhala kings hired two kind of people from south India

1. Thalana Panna
2. Hewa Panna

Thalana Panna - Is the tribe of people who attended into making Cinnamon which was treated as a low cast of people.

Hewa Panna - Hired Mercenaries / Killers to fight the Portuguese for the Sinhala Kings. This cast of people were still treated as low cast, but higher than the "Thalana Panna"

Both of these casts were concentrated to the "Balapitiya" area of downsouth (which area we still refer as a place where very dangerous people live, because they hail from a mercenary clan)

The people had a surname which is

"Gunasekaran"

and the sinhalese people who were married to the said cast got the name

"Gunasekara" :yes:

OK ! now where does all this come into play of Premadasa?

The head authority who governed these two casts in later times was "Sir Lalitha Rajapaksha" a man who was knighted by the british thron but had nothing to do with the present Mahinda rajapaksha family.

So, this Lalith Rajapaksha got the service of house attendents from a south indian cast which was called "Sinnavo" through another family called "Ashok Gunasekaran" - who's son later headed SLT for some short span of time.

Now this "Sinnawo" cast is sort of an official Servents for high cast families. But these people were not treated as slaves !! These people were treated as a part of their family for serving them through generations !

Sinnawo mean a break down of "Sinna - Little chap" "Waa- Come here"

OK, so this Ashok Gunasekaran had such a family working for them. His name was "Thangyarajan" who was a very trusted servent of the family.

Ashok Gunasekaran had a huge Mansion behind the "Tower hall" which needed a care taker for a new boarding school he opened. Thus it was handed over to Thangyarajan the job to look after it.

Thangyarajan was a very efficient man. A little later when he moved to colombo, he brought a Bullock cart and hired it at the PORT for cargo moving and rode the cart him self.

Later one became two and so on, Thangayaraja became a very wealthy businessman in his own rights and changed his name to "Ranasinghe" to hide his cast !

During those days petta station road and "cobelled roads"

Cobbel roads - even now you can see them In Malwaththa street, the road looks like it was aligned with bricks rather than a smooth finish. It was because the Horses which the british rode slip in smooth roads in rainy days  so they needed uneven ground to walk on thus the invention of "cobelled roads"

So, to supply rice to the people who worked, there was a woman who hailed from a good family of sinhalese. She was a buxsom but a beautiful woman, (we may call her in out terms - bath amma)

Now, our Thangyaraja aka Ranasinghe fell in love with her and married her !

Premadasa's history. - Birth and growth of Permadasa

This parents had two children

1. Ranasinghe Premadasa
2. Ranasinghe Sangadasa

Note this - Ranasinghe Sangadasa was a ill brained (retarded child) when Premadasa became the president, his brother was a Labourer in the Colombo municipal council library ! only a very limited people knew about him. Sangadasa died in 1997 and he was buried by the government. The BIG Premadasa family didn't even claim their Uncle's body to give him a proper farewell.

Moving On

Premadasa lived in Keselwaththa, which was at that time the COLOMBO 07 now. Only the most richest and the respected people lived there those days.

and schooled in St. Josheps college. He excelled in his studies and was a very smart kid. He was the first one in his school to wear a wrist watch (he was a damn rich kid)

and contrary to popular belief, Premadasa spoke fluent English

Premadasa had an amazing gift of "Photographic Memory" and remarkable man of many talents.

here's Victor uncle's words "If you give Premadasa 10 pages of a printed speech to do in a occasion. He reads it once and two days later he will speak at the ceremony without the printouts and without dropping a word of the whole 10 pages. That is the kind of a photographic memory that man had"

Premadasa's history. - HEMA Premadasa (wife)

Hema was a mere sales girl working in a milk counter in Keselwaththa. She was pretty but not the type a wealthy man like Premadasa will ever consider.

But the twist of things came when a good friend of Premadasa proposed to this girl and her Horoscopes didn't match. But Premadasa found out that her Horoscope was so powerful that whoever marries her will hit the TOP.

Believing in all the mumbo jumbo about these thins, Premadasa married her the next week

:( :( :( got to run bros. will write the rest here on this thread later. More unknown things to come..

Could you provide a gist... Can't be bothered to read a crap like this about a dead person.

He was a great leader after all. He did some bad stuff, that's the dark side of him.
