Bus reverses killing six year old girl

A six year old girl died yesterday after being run over by a Mathugama-Colombo bus that was reversing on the main road at Rawathawatta.

The police have arrested the driver and the conductor of the bus. The bus is also in the police custody.

Ahimsa Sevmini Almeida was with her parents at the time of the accident. They survived.

The incident had taken place at 6.45 pm, the police said. "The girl was in her school uniform in the morning and was being taken to the school by her parents on a motorbike," said HQI of Moratuwa Police, CI Rohan Perera.

"The private bus driver had reversed the bus on the main road to avoid a van in front of the Rawatawatta-Colombo bus-stand," he said. "The motorbike with the girl and her parents was right behind the reversing bus and was hit, he said. The six year old girl fell off the bike and was caught in the rear wheels of the bus. She died instantly, police said. Moratuwa police are investigating.

Person should be aware of dangers all the time.
And care of the passengers.
I assume the the girl was wearing a helmet and untie from her head upon when
she falls.
Cos you can the helmet inside the bus on 2nd pic.

Yup i agree, Rider too should be responsible, but what are you to do if da bus in front of u just reverses all of a sudden, hw can u expect for a bus to reverse at dat tym on da main road..

Ya maybe she waz wearing a helmet, but i dnt think it would hav been much of a help at dis situation..

Helmets are design for 'Impacts'. Actually only for 2 Impacts in its life time. So if you come across with an Motorbike accident and been save by your helmet ; next thing you should do is throw it out and replace it. Cos it wont help you on 2nd.

Reversing a heavy vehicle :

Driver shouldn't move the vehicle until he get all clear from the conductor/cleaner.
In this occasion I don't think there was a conductor. Driver is responsible. He'll ba charge under manslaughter.
