Wifi is the best option if you have a laptop, pda,IP CAM or Pocket PC (and many more you can connect wireless) so you can access them all and charge ppl money for using your internet if you have a wider coverage:).but dude if you have just one single desktop PC, then you dont even need any routers. just use the modem:):)

The only reason why I need an ADSL router is because of the driver troubles associated with USB modems. But, at least mine works in Vista 32bit, and Vista 64bit is too bossy with software, so I might stick with the 32bit, hence won't buy a router anytime soon. :)

well i don't know how SLT works and how many stuff it have for it self but one thing is clear. u guys can start improving the service qulity of the couurent ADSL service given to your customers. i mean just look at the whole thing.... this is crazy people. we don't even get our 512 correctly. how come we keep hopes on a company like that? why don't this SLT people try and do something to hadel the traffic genrated by all its custormers more efficiantly? just try acsessing a site or two at the congested times...like when its 1.00pm - 4.00pm its damn slow! shit u SLT people should seriously consider improving this situvation before say that we are biggest in south asia... blahblahbalh shit! get some more bandwidth, and some good routers, skills, plans and improve the connectivity of the ADSL subsribers.

And then u can aim at the sky :-)

512kBps is the maximum. OK. No company in the world gives the full bandwidth. When more users are using ADSL, it will slow down. This is the deal they have with the international ISP(s).

You can always access local sites at full speed, if the servers are fast enough.

I have a friend in Australia who has a ADSL2+ connection, from iiNet. They provide the fastest connection speeds there. Even if he uses private torrents, with full of seeds, the maximum speed he can get is around 6Mbps. This is a 24Mbps connection btw.

yea true, u can't expect them to give u full speed(512 in ma case). but sometime the connection is so slow. and by slow i mean slow!

Local sites are ok becasue the local ISPs are having a local network to exchange there traffic(not sure about this ? can anyone confirm? :-). but i still think that SLT should improve there speeds.

If u do a traceroute to google when its conegsted time(and u r using like... a half of ur bandwidth), u'll find that the SLT routers are droping ur packets! usually the ones in the 2,3,4 hops. i guess there are overwarhmed with traffic at that times or may be there are throttling our traffic...? well i don't know. but SLT can surely improve there ADSL thing.

I guess ur friend can let some 4 torrents run at full speed simulteniously, making use of the full bandwidth. but then he'll have to find a storage solution :-) man..... i can't even imagin that much of bandwidth. will we be ever able to get that much speed at our homes? oh... just imagin 24Mbps !@%^&$!& in srilanka... well its just a dream... but may be not who knows...

You think he's only downloading one torrent at a time?
He has more than 1TB of HDD space. And you know what, he can only download 20GB per month. We can download 80GB+ with a 512k connection. So what do you think it better? More data or speed?

SLT will give ADSL2+ once they get the approval from TRC. I heard that they have already done the testing. The speeds will be more than 10Mbps. Anyway, I have no idea about the tariffs. Surely a quota system will come into play.

AFAIK, SLT already has ADSL2. I have a friend who has a SLT ADSL 20 (or is it 10?) mbps DL speed and he had that connection for more than 2 years now..

    Nope. SLT doesn't have ADSL2+.

i hate quotas or anything related to em... so yea sure 512 with no limits is better for me cause i'm on 24/7. but for a regular user i guess some good speed with quota is better. hmmm ADSL2+ good... what about the wimax thing? i guess there is something wrong with the permission for them to do that... but anyways i get some info on my router about my connection(stuff that it auto detect i guess...) and it says ADSL2 :-) well yeah i know it must be some wrong guess or something... i wonder whether SLT's old telephone lines can support the speeds...? some lines have too much noice and stuff. well i would like to see an alternative wireless ISP popping up in srilanka... it will give more possibilities and more speeds(....?...)....

and then SLT will have some competition from someone... some real competition so then we users would get a higher quality service for cheaper rates.....
