I think lot people are changing into Airtel Broadband, So, it will be very useful if they post some speedtests.

*Please consider: When doing Speed tests in http://www.speedtest.net Do it with servers from US/UK/JP, etc. Don't do with Male server.:D

Nice post... but is colombo 3.5G covered or just 3G covered???

There's no much difference between 3G & 3.5G, It is just part of 3G technology.
Airtel's 3G is always 3.5G, so no need to worry, if you have Airtel 3G, you have Airtel 3.5G.
    For example;
    * Dialog advertises as Dialog 3G, though they have 3.5G, but, mobitel directly says they have 3.5G.

    Japan:

    India:

Reason: Because we download many software from US websites, not in Maldives! That is the basic reason & there are more complicated & Technical reasons too.

Can I use my fone as a modem and surf on the computer?

If your phone can support HSDPA, you can use it as modem to connect with a PC, or if you just want to surf through the phone itself, if your phone can support GPRS, it enough.

For more information refer to your phone manual & search the net with your phone model.

    airtel broadband.

    Dear everyone,

This is the solution for people who are looking for Airtel Broadband to convert, since the broadband is getting utlised overall there connection will be slower from time to time. EX: a tower can enable upto 7.2 MBPS of data so more number of users the speed is going to decrease. I am doing a Beta testing with Airtel broadband. I have bought a DATA sim and i am doing a trial run, to predict how long can they be providing atleast 300kbps of data.

people who have GPRS enabled on there phones can USE airtel broadband, even if it has EDGE, GPRS, 3G, or 3.5G Airtel broadband or DATA will work.

Airtel Broadband ganna one ayatai me, Denata Airtel broadband niyamai, Namuth thawath sathi Keeyapakin kiyanna nam behe, AI? denata network eka fill wenawa airtel broadband kiya kiya hamooma gannawa, namuth hamooma gaththahama network eka full wena nisath Speed eke adu paduwak siddawenna ida thiyenawa, Enisa danmama Rupiyal 10,000k Yata nokara thawa tika kalayak bala ita pasuwa gando, nogando kiya theeranaya karamu, nathahoth HSDPA thibena Phone ekak athnam athhada balannata kemethi nam Airtel DATA (broadband) card pathak ragena bavitha kara balanna.

I have already said about the speed, there's a possibility of decreasing speed, So better to wait until March atleast.

Yes, that's true that speed will be disturbed when users increases, but, Airtel claims that they will build more than 750 base stations at the end of 2009! This is comparatively higher than Dialog or Mobitel, Dialog has some of the old towers, so does the mobitel, But, Airtel's new base stations will be using new technologies.

Apart from that, Airtel already said that they will not build their own towers, but they will share with other existing providers.

As a conclusion, I have to say, I will buy an Airtel broadband, when I get covered. That will be after March. After that, I am planning to go each & every place in Sri Lanka & I will post speedtests all over Sri Lanka.

    Stay tuned to this thread.
