The radioactive material at base and accumulated material with radio activity ?
Be careful as Radioactivity cannot be seen , but if exposed can seriously /fatally damage with instant or later organ failure! (this is if you handle these radioactive substances)
"In the early twentieth century, it was proposed that placing a radioactive source near the end of a lightning conductor would help ionize the near field atmosphere, reducing its electrical resistance and theoretically improving the likelihood that lightning would strike the conductor. In the 1960s, radioactive lightning conductors (RLCs)1 were widely manufactured and initially the radioactive sources in these devices were small — on the order of kBq (μCi) — but later increased to a few hundreds of MBq (mCi) per source. 226Ra and 241Am were the first radionuclides to be used. In later years, and particularly in former Yugoslavia, larger quantities of gamma emitting radionuclides were used for this purpose. Radioactive lightning conductors, also called radioactive lightning rods, terminals, preventers or arresters, were used for several decades. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of these RLCs were installed worldwide. The use of RLCs in most countries began before the development of specific legislation to control the possession and use of radioactive materials. Most countries around the world were not concerned about the installation of RLCs and many did not keep records as to where they were installed. With time, it was determined that all of these devices presented radiation protection risks to the public. In particular, leakage resulting in non‑fixed contamination, in the case of the 226Ra and 241Am sources, and unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation, in the case of the higher level 154/152Eu and 60Co sources, were the predominant issues. In countries that were involved in conflict, many RLC sources were stolen, displaced, damaged or lost......."
No amount of money can compensate damage if exposed , next issue is why this radio active materials collected by private parties as all radio active tests are done in IAEA certified labs with proper documentation and safety procedure . We have ratified all important intranational conventions on Radio Active Materials including NPT (in sri lanka we had one at UOC but I was told that its radio active source was removed some time ago for a good reason which cannot be stated . To my knowledge we do not have IAEA certified lab in sri lanka , but I could see some politicians are talking about Nuclear Power Generators from Russia being lobbied ! AKD is silent for obvious reasons !
