What you say is true competition is good for the consumers, BUT how did AMD come to the scenario? they offered competitive technology @ competitive prices, they fought neck-and-neck with Intel and pushed them up against the wall all the time.. BUT look now...... ONLY AMD CAN HELP THEMSELVES!!

Consumers will support the solution that's best bang for their buck, world is not the same as it was 10 years back everybody has accsess to information everybody knows what to choose or they have help to choose it for them.. in which ever way consumers are smarter than they were in the past..

SO UNTIL AMD HELP THEMSELVES A BIT BY BRINGING IN A SOLUTION OR TWO THAT BEATS INTEL ON FEW BENCHMARKS AND GAIN TOP SPOT, The average consumer cannot help much!!
ya AMD's position is going from bad to worse while intel steals their customers by giving special offers, etc

They don't need to top Intel's products. All they need is competitive products at competitive prices. Even if they could price the 2.6GHz Phenom X4 at the price of a Q6600, then people might buy it over the Q6600, because most of the times, the Phenom X4 2.6GHz is faster.

They have to know that they can't charge more for something that doesn't perform at least on par.

However, if they could bring an awesome chipset that is very inexpensive with all the tech features available as of today, then it's ok to price the CPU a little higher, because in the end of the day, it is the price of the PC as a whole, that matters to the end user. Maybe lower the ATI cards' prices and make them work better with AMD CPUs/Chipset than Intel. (By this I'm not saying that they should deliberately slow it on a non-AMD platform, because they will lose VGA card market as well...maybe ability do certain CPU limited processing on the VGA etc. (not as hardcore as the hybrids)

Microsoft would be interested as the video processor in XBOX is an ATI.

Anyway, Intel is also working on that all integrated CPU + GPU thingy. Wonder who will turn out as the winner.
When intel also go with the integrated solution, Nvidia will go out of business.
So its better for Nvidia to buy AMD for cheap while they can.
Anyway i am not sure Intel may buy Nvidia too.

Microsoft can change the X-Box GPU or handover the order for Nvidia for the next version. But i don't think microsoft will buy AMD for that ATI GPU. If they buy AMD they become one of the biggest hardware manufactures in the world. If they put more money on AMD researchers and beat Intel again then they become the dominators of the both software and hardware worlds! Linux running on Microsoft CPU + GPU + Chipset hehe

How that sounds!... Matrix Live! :P

Yeah! that's just the case because performance to $$ ratio is very disappointing!! And AMD just need some revelation in terms of either performance or $$ wise!!

If they heard you, Microsoft won't buy AMD then :P

Anyway, Microsoft might not go for nVidia for XBOX as Sony is using nVidia.

heh,AMD would have to do more than that. With 3core CPUs(5 of them)Pushed into march, following Intels push of YFs to march would put them in more trouble in CPU side IMO.

Anyway nVIDIA is the forbes company of the year.To tell you they have had really successful 5 years(excluding the drivers,to be honest). They have money to spend.
