I'm running a small home server here and the electricity bill isn't helping at all (Parents = :( ). So I know that AMD processors are designed with higher energy efficiency unlike Intel. And also I know that the AMD processors are two times faster than Intel because of there pipe levels. Which mean double energy saving :)

How ever AMD's are a bit non-durable with Heat. In a tropical country like Sri Lanka where room temperatures sometimes top 34C is it advisable to invest in an AMD solution for my home server? NO A/C! (Don't even ask! our bill tops Rs. 8000/-).

Thanks

I have a AMD Turion 64 Dual core powered machine running 24/7 and the electricity bill is only half what you got there. check your electricity usage , or wastage since its unlikely that your PC is the reason for the large electricity bills. Do you use non CFL light bulbs and water heaters (hot water on tap) or some other electricity consuming devices ?

Speaking of AMD, with proper cooling fans in place you can use an AMD without any problems.

I have been using AMD processors for about 7 years by now. But I have never experienced such a thing. My electricity bill is alws under 3000.

Of course, It's ok to switch to an AMD.
