very true, i got a job there with 6 digit salary plus remuneration, after few month back to SL with my kid and family, now working merely 1/100 salary here, but i'm satisfied and happy here with family.

The things in this story is true. But it all depends on how you face challenges and go through. USA is a country for the go-getters and hard ass people. No spoon feeding, and if you want it, go get it. You have to work hard and earn it. If you are lazy you are done.
And it all depends on where you live too. It's like that story where 7 blind people told how the elephant look.

I don't know whether this story is true, but i know stories like this are true. I'm not saying anything wrong about greencard, this does not need to be greeancard, america is good for people who are millionaires (in dollars) and people who have luck and ability to make correct decisions.

The rest (most of them) end f**** up on the street, if not anywhere else.

I shouldn't be saying my story but, as i'm annonymous in elakiri, i can tell it here safely.

My brother received A,C,S for maths in A/L, and wanted to go abroad to study . He did SAT and got a island rank on it. He was accepted visa easily. He went to a county college to cover some subjects (like american history and art bla bla) before going to the 3rd best engineering university in US (rank below 10 in global), which is also below 100 in university rankings.

We sent him some money for the first 3 years, while he was doing a part time job there, and he had a first class GPA by end of the 3rd year.
But the final year cost was so high that he had to two jobs to cover up, other than the money we sent. He ended up screwing the exams. He couldn't repeat the subjects because the cost for subjects and the year registration is US$ 29,000 (over 30 lakhs in rupees). He didn't tell what was happening there coz he knew that we were already extruded to the limit spending more than U$ 100,000 for him.

He couldn't find a job not because he was lazy or incompetent, it's just because the financial crisis came in 2008 and people lost jobs. Many jobs. He worked as a trainee engineer on a IC (chip) design firm for US Army. He developed a robot rover to quickly deploy and search for IED's before they storm in.

He simply lost it and broke the contact with us, observing complete radio silence for 4 months !!! We even didn't know whether he was alive or not. I have four cousins in US, with their families, so i persuaded them to find him. Asked the police, and some private detectives even. I hacked in to his email, and he has not read emails for four months. I digged all his facebook friends accounts, email contacts etc... to try to search him. By this time my mum had gone haywire. I was simply out of the grid (he's very good at that).

After four months he had enough running, and hating himself and called us as his visa was ending. He came to SL, he had his stamp albums, clothes, ipod and stuff and the laptop only, all carried in his back pack.

This is american legacy for me. I was hoping to go to US for further studies (MSc) but simply ignored it now.

හැබැයි මහත්තයෝ මෙහෙම එකකුත් තියෙනවා. මම අඳුරන එක අන්කල් කෙනෙක් ඉන්නවා පිටරටක. මිනිහ ඒ රට ඇවිල්ල තියෙන්නේ 1967 දී, දැන් මිනිහට ගෙවල් දෙකක් තියෙනවා, එකක් රෙන්ට් කරනවා. එයාගේ දුව බැඳලා ඉන්නේ සුද්දෙක්. ප්‍රශ්නයක් නෑ. පුතා ලෝයර් , අනික් පුතා අකවුන්ටන්ට්. ඒ ගොල්ලෝ ශේප් එකේ ඉන්නවා.

පොඩි කාලේ ඉඳලම ළමයි හදාගන්න බලන්න ඕනේ. හොඳ සාර ධර්ම කියා දෙන්න ඕනේ. මම දන්නා එක කොල්ලෙක් ඉන්නවා පිටරට. මිනිහ මේ පිට රට ඉපදුනාට ජීවත් වෙන්නේ ලංකාවේ. ඕං වැඩේ.
