I personally enjoy the customization that Android has to offer.
Both OS’s are great. It depends on whether you want customization or reliability. In my opinion android phones are better than iPhones and iPads are better than android tablets.
Any person that wants freedom to explore and customize goes with Android, but hey don't take my advice, enjoy your iPhone cus Apple needs customers.
I believe all the opinions in this thread are biased.
However, as a Mobile QA engineer I am using all sort of Android and iOS devices (Phones and Tablets) in my day to day life. With my current experience, so far I prefer iOS over Android.
Would be nice to know the answers for the followings as a part of your above comment.
1. Which Android Phone are you using at the moment?
2. Which Android device did you customize?
3. What features did you customize on Android?
4. What are the reasons for customize those features?
5. What can you explore on Android devices which can not be explored on iOS?
I believe most of the Android user's don't have the knowledge to customize their phones. Nobody is using most of the features in their daily activities either. So if you talk about customization, you are referring to very limited number of people. Out of those people, they will be using those customized features for a short time period. Once they passed the honeymoon period, they will fallback to stock apps again.
Once you customized your device, you can not guarantee the stability of the OS.
Also if you are referring "customization" as an app which can be downloaded from PlayStore to change wallpapers, ringing tones, add widgets and bla bla bla... then you're not talking about "customization". Because most of the people who has the same idea about the Android OS over iOS, they will bring customization and open source in to the table. But they really don't have a clue about what they are talking.

customizing mean enabling the features that do not available in original android OS
as exsample
we need root access to install some apps
we need to customize sound that we hear (more bass equalizer etc ...)
We need to remove apps that do not want (system apps)
If we dont like default sms app we need to install another one over default one
I do not want to enter passcode after i reboot my device every time
I dont want see some stupid message of android system so i disable them
I want my mobile cpu's 2 core's to be shut down when my phone is idle
I need 2 messengers in my phone (viber whatsapp IMO)
Etc ...
I can agree with one thing which is remove unused system apps to get more space. But other than that I don't agree with you.
The sms app that you installed after removing the default sms app, what was additional features you were looking for? Were you able to send something which can not be sent with the default one? If yes, do the other party have to have the same sms app to view those messages? or their default messaging app can be used to view those message?
If you remove the passcode thingy after rebooting your phone, where is the security?
If you want to shut down cpu's 2 core's when the phone is in idle, what is the use of it?
I am not sure about the sound quality once you customize sound on your phone.
Even you think some system messages are stupid in Android..
One thing still I cannot understand which is, why those companies do not release those phones with rooted access even though they know that people can root their phones. (They are talking about Android is open source, but with some restrictions.) Even Google Pixel is not coming with root access. Why?
At the end of the day people like you can do the Android customization. But not everyone, and still they have the same reasons like you do to prefer Android over iOS.

1. I like the idea of entering the master passcode after device restart because it has everything to do with security. Good luck if you're phone is stolen by someone because of a stupid thing you doesn't wanted to have.
2. Yeah, unlike android, iOS doesn't show "stupid" messages my fren. Even you're very low on space, the phone doesn't say shit or lag unlike android.
. So yeah, iOS users don't need to go into that deep.3. Aaah.. yes bro. very good point. Refer to apple latest phone A11 Bionic Chip and A10 specifications. It uses idle CPU cores to perform very low end tasks and for games and other high performance power hungry tasks, it uses the high performance cores. This came into light in Apple A10 chip and vastly improved on A11 Bionic chip.
So iOS users who has iPhone 7 onward don't want to disable their cores either neda?
4. I assume you're talking about 2 facebook app accounts to control 2 facebook accounts etc. Yeah i have no idea about this. never wanted to do that so I give you a point for that due to me being not able to answer to that question.
