American Eagle flight 5342, operated by PSA, with service from Wichita, Kansas (ICT) to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) has been involved in an incident. The passenger plane with 64 people on board has collided with a helicopter carrying three US army personel over Washington DC.

The PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet arriving in the city from Wichita, Kansas, collided with a Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk helicopter in midair just before 9pm, US Eastern Time.
The plane was on approach to the runway at Reagan Airport at the time. ☹️

"The Blackhawk army transport, call sign PAT25, was told to keep visual separation from the CRJ that it ran into based on the ATC tapes."

ACAS , TCAS left the chat

This must have been below the altitude where TCAS - RA gets inhibited. The CRJ is on the landing approach. Most likely TCAS not active. These airports are busy and with so many lights around visual separation is not the ideal. ☹️

Now it's confirmed that there are no survivors. Death toll would be 64 + 3.

This is not the first time that Potomac river associated with a plane crash. In 1982 Air Florida flight 90 first crashed in to the bridge and then fall into the river below killing 78. 9 people survived the crash and sub zero temperatures of the river partly due to intense and brave rescue efforts.

TCAS does warn you below 1000ft but it does not give any resolution advisory. Instead it gives "traffic, traffic" warning and light indicator on the dash.

Thanks for that info... Many things are unclear yet. Why the Black Hawk radar didn't detect or even it's ADS-B. Possibly the NTSB will get to the real picture and figure out what went wrong.
