LTTE's Vanni faction has suffered a serious split. Two factions have emerged fighting for supremacy in the areas currently under the control of LTTE, defence intelligence sources said last night.
According to information received by the defence intelligences sources, a new faction has emerged against the LTTE supremo Prabhakaran. The Vanni force is divided into two factions as Mulaitivu and Omanthai factions. East of the A-9 includes LTTE cadres supporting Prabhakaran who are from Mulaitivu, Kilinochchi, Iranamadu, Oddusuddan, Pudukudurippu. The West flank of the A-9 is controlled by cadres from Omanthai West, Mannar East, sources said.
The A-9 West has taken up arms against their counterparts accusing them for having direct relationships with the leadership and enjoying luxurious lives while others are fighting for survival against the advancing security forces in Thoppigala.
Following the split the faction on the West of the A-9 exploded a claymore mine targeting the LTTE's political wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan on Sunday (20) at Kilinochchi. The luxurious cab belonging to the Thamilselvan's escort had exploded killing four senior aides of the political wing leader, sources said.
This new development had contributed to a loss of morale of over 90% of cadres in Thoppigala jungle and most of them were ready to surrender to the security forces, sources said.
However, the news services sympathetic to the LTTE, including its own LTTE terrorists web Tamil Net remained silent on the issue.
