Could some one please explain me how the antibiotic resistance occur? I have read this is happened due to misuse of antibiotics. Please explain me what does it mean by 'misuse'?

If the doctor prescribe to take a antibiotic for ever 12 hours & if I forget 2 does of antibiotics, Is there a risk? :(

I think misuse means "taking antibiotics unnecessary "
I have seen many sri lankan doctors give medicines for every problem. In other countries, people are given medicines only if they need

for example if you have fever/ cough, they check and determine the whether it is a bacteria infection or viral infection. If it is due to normal virus, usually they don't give anything and asked us to take some rest. drink some hot water that is all !!.

I do not have any knowledge of medicine. This is what I feel and observed

You could be right about that. I had a friend who took paracetamol daily for quite some time and now her body won't respond to paracetamol. The doctor said her immune system had grown some form of resistivity against paracetamol.

You are given a powerful antibiotic like Zinnat (cefuroxime) or Curam ( amoxycillin and clavulanic acid), They are the ones given to be taken twice a day (every 12 hours). if its a mild case , its not a big issue, but otherwise can lead to breathing difficulties (my personal experience, i am not a doctor).

after realizing severe side effects of those, i switched to herbal antibiotics ! They are good and much quicker than chemical antibiotics!

some times some docs use anti biotics vastly.. but there is a rational behind it.. most of viral infections followed by 2ndry bacterial.. so if suspecting that u can give.. anika most of people in rural areas cannot afford for medicine and FBC and other invest.. so dont blame docs for every thing....
and dont afraid one time misuse not cause resistance but if misuse become common it will 👌

    exactly

what happened when people use DDT extensively to kill mosquitoes. The mosquitoes developed resistance to DDT and after that, DDT does not eliminate mosquitoes. The truth is simple as that.

Antibiotic Resistance is dangerous situation and this is considered as critical problem in the future.

    (1) I cant accept that. So you mean that simply because viral infections followed by 2ndry bacterial, the antibiotics should be given?.

    (2) that is understood. But we have to limit that.

Attitude of Doctors and patients should be changed. The patients should not be expected to have medicine all the times. They should be better informed when to see a doctor. Doctors should give medicine only if they really need (but not to satisfy the patients and earn more money)

Doctors are professionals in medicine and know concepts like antibiotics resistances very well and know when to give medicine. But (you know)............
