I need find some info about a srilankan - A novelist - who lived in germany a long time ago.
His name is Gandarage Gardius Ranasingha
Born in Galle, sri lanka.
He was later married to a german women and Migrated to germany in the late 1920's.
After he came to germany , he changed his name to Gunther goodyear singh.
He has worked in the Public library of Berlin. started as a book binder and later became the assistant librarian.
In the mean time , he started writing children's books in german language.
He was mainly focused on translating srilankan folk - tales to german.
Later he became one of the most popular writer in germany at the time.
one of his books, Folk-tales from the indian ocean was approved by the german government for nursery kids.
Moving on, He wrote a Novel called Hun-Man-ger (Hanuman's rock) which became one of the best selling book in Germany in the 1930's.
The book became so popular , even a film was created using it as the base.
But after the 1st world war started, He was arrested by Hitlers army and kept in a prison at the town of Dresden.
This is the all info I could find about him after a lot of searching.
I need some information about that novel based movie. (if available)
And I need to find the other books written by him.
PS.
If anyone who prefer the public library of Berlin . there must be any kind of a record about this person, because he was an employee there.
Or hopefully there should be books written by him.
So if anyone who visit there, please see what you can do to help me
Because he changed his name from G.G. Ranasinghe to Gunther goodyear singh, the germans got to know him as an Indian. Not as a sri lankan.
Because of that, He used the second name in all of his books.
I'm collecting this info for a very important project.
So If anyone can do this help to me then it's highly appreciated.
regards.
