I have both MacBook Air & MacBook Pro 13'
I bought MacBook Pro in 2014 (2014 mid version) still works like a charm (Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, Chrome 15+ tabs right now). As a web developer, all the programs are optimized, no hardware errors etc. I use this laptop as a desktop now.

Of course I used my friends MacBook Pro 5 years ago :P It is worthless and even he admitted it. We bought Thinkpads after. iPhones are good but not Macs :P
Dude my 12 year old Toshiba can do all the things you mentioned above and it has a 1st gen i5 with 8GB ram. It cost me fraction of the money and everything is replaceable :P I can swap rams within couple of mins :P Never had any troubles, used it as a windows machine, now a linux workstation, battery change cost me only 3K and never had any issues. How is yours?

No offence, but you "Used" a MacBook 5 years ago, how many days? As I mentioned, I'm not a fanboy or anything, I hate Apple phones and other overpriced shit from them. If your friend admitted that his MacBook is useless then he is an idiot for purchasing a computer that's not up to his expectations. As I mentioned I brought mine to meet my requirements. I was using HP Pavillion Laptop for 4 years before that. I mean you can use Adobe suite on any mid level computer but having maximum utilization is life saving. I never had to replace anything and still gives me 5-6 working battery hours, rarely charge my Air, I just pick it up, do my work, put on sleep.
    Couple of remarks,
    • Never have to format or anything, OS updates are free.
    • Most of the softwares are optimized for optimal hardware use.
    • Never had not responding programs so far.
    • Both my HP and Mac had i5 and 8Gigs of ram but MacBook performance are outstanding for work.
We can argue all day long but different people have different opinions, I used a Windows 10 laptop and it sucks big time.
