Label given to any person who craves attention to such an extent that they will do anything to receive it. The type of attention (negative or positive) does not matter.

A pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

1.is uncomfortable in situations in which he or she is not the center of attention
2.interaction with others is often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior
3.displays rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions
4.consistently uses physical appearance to draw attention to self
5.has a style of speech that is excessively impressionistic and lacking in detail
6.shows self-dramatization, theatricality, and exaggerated expression of emotion
7.is suggestible, i.e., easily influenced by others or circumstances
8.considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are.

1. How often do you change your hair style and color?
   • Every few years, when it starts to get stale
   • Almost never
   • Every few months
2. When you give a gift, you:
   • Give something that's inexpensive but useful
   • Give something that's so over the top, your friend can't stop thanking you
   • Give something that your friend is dying for
3. If people are dancing at a party or club, you:
   • Probably won't dance unless you're dragged out there
   • May join them if you're in the mood
   • Start showing off your great dance moves
4. If something amazing happens to you, how many people know?
   • Not many - maybe your family and closest friends
   • Most of the people you know. You like to share the good news.
   • Everyone you know, and even some strangers.
5. How competitive are you?
   • You enjoy winning, but you're also a graceful loser
   • You love games and competitions. And you better win... or else!
   • You're not very competitive
6. If people are talking about something you know nothing about, you:
   • Wait until the conversation topic changes
   • Ask a few questions to learn more about it
   • Try to get everyone to change the subject
7. Admit it, do you ever think about being famous?
   • Not really
   • Well, you wouldn't turn down the opportunity to be on television
   • You're pretty much obsessed with it
