Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter the Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera was admitted to the Badulla hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Kandy General hospital after he was taken ill when attending a religious ceremony at the Badulla Muthiyangana Raja Maha Vihara.
The Mahanayake Thera planted a Bo-sapling at the Muthiyangana Temple after opening and blessing the new Bodhi Prakara of the temple.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony the Mahanayake said he attended the ceremony despite physical ailments because participating in religious events made him forget his illness. In his sermon he stressed that monks should commit themselves to serving the Buddha Sasana and the people without expecting any fame or favour.
