Police curfew imposed
(Lanka-e-News, May 22, 2008, 5.30 PM) Batticaloa and Ampara TMVP military leader Shanthan and another member of the TMVP killed around 11.45am this morning. Our correspondent said the situation has now escalated badly and armed TMVP members had killed two Muslims in Arayampathi area as a revenging attack.
Police media spokesman D.I.G. N.K.Ilangakoon told Lanka E news four civilians have also injured by the attack. The civilians have been admitted to the Batticaloa teaching hospital. Police spokesman also said the three civilians were Muslims and the other is a Sinhalese. According to the police they were traveling by a vehicle when the firing took place.
Meanwhile a spokesman from the Batticaloa hospital police said five dead bodies have been taken to the hospital as a result of the attack.
Chairman of the Sri lanka Muslim Congress and a member of newly elected Eastern Provincial Council Segu Dawud told Lanka E news that he has seen two dead bodies.
